The ambitious project, formalized through a contract with Ageroute, underscores a commitment to bolstering road safety across Senegal. This comprehensive audit will meticulously examine existing paved national roads and the motorway network to pinpoint and evaluate current road safety shortcomings. Building upon previous assessments, the project will review the continued relevance of prior recommendations within the present context. A key objective is to formulate practical corrective measures that seamlessly integrate road safety principles into the very fabric of road planning, design, and maintenance procedures. This includes a detailed estimation of the costs associated with these improvements. Furthermore, the initiative includes a crucial component focused on human capacity development: the training and assistance in the certification of road safety audit engineers. This strategic investment in local expertise will elevate the importance of road safety considerations among designers and engineers overseeing roadworks.
The execution of the extensive audit will involve a phased approach, beginning with a thorough review of relevant documents and data, followed by route familiarization to understand network specifics like crash rates and road types. Diagnostic assessments, particularly of high-risk areas, will include detailed crash analyses. On-site inspections will identify physical safety deficiencies, leading to a summary of risks and targeted recommendations. A comprehensive report will detail each problem with supporting evidence and propose costed solutions with implementation plans.
This significant undertaking further solidifies FRED Engineering’s established presence in Senegal. The company is currently engaged in the audit of the Dakar BRT project on behalf of CETUD and provides technical assistance for the implementation of national road safety awareness and information campaigns for ANASER. This new project represents another important step towards creating a safer road network for all users in Senegal.
